Head Trainer

Edward Cummings

Edward Cummings is a fifth-generation horseman, the grandson of Bart Cummings with twelve Melbourne Cups, 270 Group 1 winners, carrying a legacy that spans more than a century of Australian racing history.

After years working alongside Bart and his father Anthony, himself a 25-time Group 1 winning trainer, Edward founded Myrtle House in 2019. He built it on his own terms at Hawkesbury with three Group 1 wins, $8 million in career prize money and now a two-state operation across Hawkesbury and Flemington.

Where it began

The Mare Called Myrtle

In 1910, James Cummings entered a mare called Myrtle in the Alice Springs Cup — and won. It was the first recorded victory for the Cummings name in Australian racing, and the moment that set a dynasty in motion. More than a century later, that mare’s name lives on as the identity of Edward Cummings’ training operation: Myrtle House.

Second generation

Jim Cummings

Jim Cummings carried the family passion forward, training Comic Court to victory in the 1950 Melbourne Cup. The Cummings name became synonymous with the race that stops a nation.

Third generation

Bart Cummings

The most successful trainer in Melbourne Cup history. Inducted as a Legend in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame, Bart defined what it means to train at the highest level in Australia. His record may never be surpassed.

Fourth generation

Anthony Cummings

Anthony continued the dynasty with 25 Group 1 winners, training from the historic Leilani Lodge at Royal Randwick. His sons Edward and James represent the fifth generation — Edward through Myrtle House, James as head trainer for Godolphin Australia.

Fifth generation

Edward’s Chapter

Edward Cummings carries this legacy forward with Myrtle House — named for the mare that started it all in 1910. From Hawkesbury to Flemington, Edward is writing the next chapter of a story more than a century in the making.

James’ Chapter

After succeeding his grandfather Bart Cummings and becoming Godolphin’s head Australian trainer in 2017, James Cummings achieved rapid elite-level success, including a notable Golden Slipper quinella. Operating out of the state-of-the-art Osborne Park facility, he manages a streamlined roster of over 250 horses with a strategic focus on quality and championship potential.
