ARATO is an imposing four-year-old gelding by proven sire Nicconi, and we believe he has all the makings of a genuine metropolitan-class sprinter. A big, strong and athletic individual with plenty of presence, he has required both time and patience to reach this stage of his career, but that investment is now beginning to pay dividends.
ARATO quickly showed he possessed above-average ability, trialling impressively on two occasions before making an excellent race debut when finishing a close second. His following start was full of merit after being badly held up at a crucial stage and never getting a chance to show his ability.
Returning to the trials, ARATO again impressed when finishing second in a strong Randwick heat before producing a stylish maiden victory at Gosford. His performance displayed the acceleration, strength and determination that we have always believed he possessed and confirmed the ability we have seen at home throughout his career.
Most recently he pulled up sore following his Newcastle run, however the issue is not expected to delay his progress and we anticipate he will return to work quickly. Importantly, the hard work has already been done. He has overcome the developmental hurdles that can often confront big, late-maturing horses and is now ready to continue building on his race experience.
ARATO possesses natural speed, plenty of strength and the physical scope to continue improving as he matures. We firmly believe his best racing is still ahead of him, and he profiles as the type of horse capable of developing into a consistent Saturday metropolitan performer over the sprint distances.
Edward Cummings has been unwavering in his opinion of the gelding, describing him simply as “a genuine city horse in the making.”
For those looking to become involved in a progressive racehorse with proven ability, untapped upside and exciting days ahead, ARATO presents an outstanding opportunity.
