It was a great week for Myrtle House with O Cara Mia (pictured) and Shadashi both breaking their maidens. Ed Cummings combined with Donovan Dillon to land the Provincial Midway Maiden Handicap (1600m) at Gosford on Thursday with beautifully-bred O Cara Mia ($2.50 favourite), who broke through at her ninth start after three minor placings.

O Cara Mia overcame difficulties in running, and her breeding suggests she will come into her own as she gets out over further ground.

Cummings paid $140,000 for the daughter of Pierro at the 2023 Inglis Classic yearling sale, and posted his fourth winner of the season.

O Cara Mia’s dam, the Ifraaj mare Araaja, won up to 2000m in France and was placed at 2400m in Listed grade in Australia.

Mollie Fitzgerald rode both Hawkesbury weekend winners.

Talented apprentice, Mollie Fitzgerald, was successful for Ed Cummings on Shadashi in the Class 1/Maiden Plate (2100m) on Newcastle’s Beaumont track on Saturday.

The Shamus Award four-year-old and $1.90 favourite steamrolled her opposition, scoring by six and a half lengths to give Cummings his fifth winner of the season.
